Picnics And Candles

As the weather goes through various changes, we feel like we need to get creative in our activities.  One of the most fun things to do is to go on a picnic.  Now the weather will dictate to you as the whether it will be an indoor or an outdoor picnic.

I think I feel this way because, when I was growing up in Southern California, mom and dad would take us all to the coast to meet 2 or 3 other families to have a beach party!  Sometimes, when the evenings were warm, the beach party would go through the week-end.  We always had so much fun!

Planning a day picnic is fun and easy as we all have our favorite picnic fare that we like to bring!

I particularly enjoy an early evening picnic, while it’s still a little light out.  Now this picnic is intended to de-stress after a bad day and add a bit of romance to the evening.  Along with the brie, baguette, dark chocolates, red wine and a variety of hors d’oeuvres I would include some candles, a comfy blanket and of course music.

I like to use a red or white pillar candle in a jar that has a lid.  I also like to include some white tea lights with small barrel holders.  That way the candles are protected from the wind that may waft through. Candles at add that perfect romantic touch to an early evening picnic and sooths the weary soul.

These picnic ideas could also be used if you were going to an outdoor concert or play.

Now of course, if you are planning an indoor picnic, spread that blanket out in front of your fireplace or make a display of candles to add the warm glow of a fireplace.  Throw some big pillows around and put on some calming music. Serve up your favorite picnic items along with some red wine and dark chocolates!  And there you have it, a great stress reliever of a picnic!  Have fun!

When using regular candles, as always, there is a safety factor to remember and that would be to not place lit candles next to anything flammable or leave your lit candles unattended.

About The Candles I Use

I just love to use candles ALL the time!   And, I mean all the time!  It seems that no matter what room I’m in, there are candles.  And, when there are candles they really have to be lit!  I totally enjoy the ambiance the lit candle emits.  They make the room feel so warm and cozy and when it’s cold outside that is a most welcoming feeling!

I especially enjoy using scented candles and each room smells so nice when I leave.  The scent is still there when I enter that room at a later time during the day.  It’s just so comforting to me to enter a room that has a light pleasant scent.

The soy candles come in various colors and sizes.  There are the taper candles, the pillar candle, the votive candle and the tea light candles.  They all come in various sizes and usually meet the needs of the theme you are using for the decoration.

Fortunately I have chosen to use soy candles as they burn clean and don’t pollute the air you are breathing!  They also do not put out the black residue the shows on your ceilings or inside the candle jar in which they have been placed.

You can find and buy these candles at today!

Candle Arrangements for the Patio and Front Porch

The patio is usually forgotten unless you are planning a patio party.  And then we need to think creatively and start placing some tall pillar candles all around and some tea lights.  Now, of course, we have the option to use regular candles or flameless candles for our ideas.  But now that the weather is starting to cool in the evenings, I will hold my party in the patio instead of out in the back yard so my guests won’t get too cold.

I’m using the flameless tall pillar, smaller votive and tea lights.  The tall pillar candles will be placed around the outer interior circumference of the patio.  I will place them in the clay saucers with rocks and flowers.  The tea lights will be hung in various glass holders and hung with the hanging plants.  The votive candles will be placed in their holders and placed on the tables and mini-bar.  The warm glow of the flameless candles will create a kind of relaxed ambiance that one can’t resist.

I’m fortunate to have a good sized front porch and I have a cast iron bench, a small round table and 2 chairs. I prefer the minimalist style of decorating which leaves a clean and uncluttered look. Because it is a bit windy on my front porch, I will again be using the flameless candles.  I will only need a china platter as a base then place 3 various sized and colored pillars. Turn them on and voila’ a warm setting for a cozy evening chat!

Now of course you will want to arrange the candles according to your own patio and front porch.  And, I know that your creative eye will make both areas just lovely.  Have a great time and enjoy your party!  (As I know your guests surely will!)  Visit and buy some of our candles at

Because we are using flameless candles we do not have to be too concerned about fire.  But when using regular candles, as always, there is a safety factor to remember and that would be to not place lit candles next to anything flammable or leave your lit candles unattended.

Candle Arrangements

I just enjoy candles of every kind and like to burn them every day of the week!  I enjoy breakfast and dinner by candle light.  Sound strange?  Well, all I know is that it’s a great way to start the day as it is so totally relaxing for me.  I sit at the dining room table in the early hours of the morning, light the candles and read my book as I have my breakfast!  A wonderful quiet time of the day!

There is a circular candelabra, that stands about 14” high in the center of my dining room table that holds 10 tea lights and on each side of the candelabra is a taper candle in a crystal candlestick holder that is about 3” high.  It is a simple but lovely arrangement.  Come by for ideas on what candle(s) you want as part of your arrangement or centerpiece.

I also like to put an arrangement of 2 or 3 votive candles in holders on small glass trays and put them on my occasional table.

I also have 2 votive candles in holders with a taper candle in a 1” candle holder in between on the top of the piano with pictures of loved ones.

I have a medium sized pillar candle arranged with 4 various sized smaller pillar and votive candles so each candle is a different size and color.  Looks great in my hutch!

I guess you would consider me a minimalist with my candle arrangements.  But these arrangements are pleasing to my eye and are calming to have around.

This year I have decided to buy some flameless tea light candles, of various colors, and put them in my Christmas tree along with my tiny lights and ball ornaments.  I think it will be a cheerful sight from the living room and the street as my tree sits in my front picture window.

As always, there is a safety factor to remember and that would be to not place lit candles next to anything flammable or leave your lit candles unattended.

Candle Memories

I can’t remember when I became so enamored with candles.  Perhaps in my twenties when I was setting up my first apartment in the City, on Nob Hill.  My girlfriend and I did a great deal of shopping at Cost Plus in San Francisco by the wharf.  The first time I went into that store, it took about an hour just to take it all in!  I felt so much like a tourist! (But that’s not such a bad thing as most of the folks down on the wharf are tourists!) This store has so much crammed into it and the variety of items to use for decorating leaves you breathless!  Everything from furniture to knick knacks!   Then while I was cruising through the store I realized I was following the most wonderful fragrances.  Much to my delight I found myself in the middle of their candle section!  I think it took another half hour before I noticed the tea lights and the tea light candle holders.  Now, what I haven’t told you is that everything in this store has been imported in from all over the world!  Talk about a ‘kid in a candy store’!  When there is so much to choose from, one has to decide on one project at a time and just how are these candles going to be used.  So, I decided to focus on nothing but tea lights and the wide selection of tea light candle holders.  At this point, I don’t have to tell you how I reacted being in that kind of environment. When you first enter the store, you have the option to take a shopping cart or a little basket.   I immediately equipped myself with a shopping cart and as I strolled through the store I had acquired some additional items of interest.  Now I was ready to select exactly what I wanted by way of tea lights.  There were so many different colors and scents and I wanted to be careful to choose the right colors and to make sure their scents are not going to be overpowering.  After choosing about 5 dozen various colors I then turned to the tea light candle holders and they were a plenty!  So I chose a few clear holders and a few clear etched holders and then some colored holders.  When I got my purchases back to my apartment there was no guess work as to where some of them were going to be placed, like in the make-up alcove, before the bathroom, and on the window sill over the bathtub.  I then finished up by putting some candles in my bedroom and the living room.  I also placed a few on the window sill in the kitchen.  I couldn’t have been more pleased with myself and how my apartment was beginning to look!

That was then and this is now and I still love candles as much as ever.  I buy them by the dozens and now there are some really cool looking candelabras and yummy crystal holders for tea lights.   You can use just about anything you want including tea cups that have no saucers, clear dessert dishes and covered candy dishes!  I’m just amazed at how many items you already have in your home that can be used to hold these wonderful little tea light and votive candles!

Come on by and visit me at and see for yourself!

A safety suggestion to always keep in mind when burning any candle is to make sure they are not burning close to anything flammable and never leave them unattended.

Hello Candle Lovers

My Candle Spot is a place for anyone who is looking for some terrific candles and candlestick holders!

I so enjoy candles and buy them often, probably more often than I should!  I use them for everything! One thing I enjoy doing is putting together candle and candle holder gifts for special occasions and special folks.  People so enjoy getting handmade gifts and it special as it was made just for them!  I also love to burn candles for absolutely no reason at all.  I think seeing a lit candle, for me, is a comforting thing…  I do have my favorites and when they’ve been discontinued, I am at a loss. . . .for about 10 minutes. . . until I find another favorite!

So if you enjoy candles, be sure to drop by and let me know.  Have a great day!
